Advertising a maintenance page is annoying but for a matter of fact is part of getting in the known... Yes not glamorous but it is still essential. You don't open a website without getting initial feedback such as the ideas.

I'll explain in depth later but the gist is:

I'm against this idea, but a rule should be made that "hyperlinks" is a must, and get rid of that annoying saying "lazy link".

Make a new section. But looking at the OPENING SOON threads is annoying "/

I couldn't agree more, they say "Oh PM me and I'll see if I can get you a job, did I tell you it isn't opening for another month." There should maybe be a forum for websites that are coming soon, or a section for websites that have jobs open but the website isn't open I see your point.

I kinda like looking at some websites which will open shortly, as you can help provide feedback, but then some are so **** they shouldnt even get a thread lol.

Its hard to provide feedback when its just:

hey my forum opens next week! heres the link!

And when you go on the site, its just a image saying coming soon >.<

I don't see why there should be a rule, it's common sense not to advertise or show off a website that doesn't exist. If they're talking about websites, they either need a new forum or that forums needs to be changed to accomodate websites that are being built (within reason) to show off what the website will be about. Afterall, some people maybe making a website with interesting content, and are showing off the fact it has this content, than the actual design of the website.

Still, if they're advertising the website in general without it being open, it maybe worth moderators just closing the threads or getting in contact with the member and telling to grow some new brain cells or enforcing the pointless posting rules (afterall, it would be pointless to advertise something that isn't there).

Previews would be needed at least, if pictures of the website (if they're showing off the design and content), or some background information on the soon to be website, such as what content will be involved etc. It's all good getting it known, but telling people that a website is coming is a bit pointless, some examples or previews would be needed, and very useful for potential viewers.

I think it's a stupid idea. Have you never seen posters and advertisements... "coming soon..." all movies/clubs/shops do it. It's pretty standard to try and build up interest for your site before the opening so people are aware of it and will visit it on the opening. There is no need for it to change, people usually specify in their thread that it's opening in a week or whatever ~ it's not like it's some sort of trick. I believe you should keep it as it is and make sure that those that aren't yet open make it clear. Prefixes are ugly and I'm not sure if they've been scrapped but if not maybe there could be one for sites that aren't yet open?

The site is there to "Show off your website" and get feedback
Now advertising sites which are coming soon.

Comparing this to adverts saying THIS MOVIE IS COMING SOON is just silly :S
