I don't really see anybody disagreeing with me but whatever. People get so wound up about little things that won't help the forum and shouldn't affect them. People need to relax, lol. If you think they shouldn't advertise their site before they open then that's ludicrous. Habbox did, ClubHabbo did, HFFM did - what do you suggest? They advertise once they're open and have no users for the first week? o.O

So you think people will be excited for the launch day and sign up? I doubt it. Advertise it on launch day, if people like it, they will join / use it.

The forum's real reason is so people can review the websites. If people are that desperate for these "Coming soon" websites, create a new subforum.

How can you turn it and make those who don't really care the "desperate" ones. You're the one who is desperate for a change that harms and shouldn't affect anybody. Like how you gave me no links like I asked too. All talk. Prove me wrong and show me the endless sites that have been advertised with no information like you keep rattling on about.

Someone said the section will be empty without them. So make a subforum for them ...
You say I am desperate but you seem desperate to want to keep them :S

    http://habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=624781
http://habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=625600 (sites dead and thread is still erm there ...)

Those six are on the 1st page.

    http://www.Habbo.LA/

will be a new Habbo US fansite (hence the "LA")
    comming with-in the next month.

Staff Is sorted, and a shoutcast and layout are in development.

Just made this thread as a proggress report

    Awesome domain eh?
I am sorry, but that really provides a great preview for a site doesn't it. No screen shots, just a "progress report" thread.

After TheHabboBB.com failing due to issues, I've decided to go back independantly and reopen OhHabbo.com with a decent version instead of rushed versions like in the past.

Anyway I would just like to tell you about the opening on 12th February at 7pm and welcome you all along, at first we are only going to be a forum and then work on an amazing site behind the scenes.

Anyway www.ohhabbo.com - Job applications on there aswell just click the image which will take you to job application form, good luck to those who apply.
A forum and a main site and advertising jobs. Great detail about the site.

I'm against this idea, but a rule should be made that "hyperlinks" is a must, and get rid of that annoying saying "lazy link".
I think I agree with this and I certainly agree with the last part. I don't visit that section very often but when I do, I find it completely mind-boggling to see how many threads advertise websites without displaying a hyper-link :S In my opinion that's the dumbest thing you can do and if a website owner doesn't understand this then I don't see why I should even bother looking at their website when they clearly don't have a grasp of the internet. Likewise, the words "lazy link" would ever be uttered by someone who knows what they're doing in marketing a website.

I think what Jake said about the fact that a website has to advertise to get users in the first week of opening has swayed my opinion to the other side of the argument here.

At the end of the day I don't use the tech forums so my personal opinion is indifferent, however obviously my opinion as AFM has to be one which is going to benefit the forum.

    So here's my detailed view:

Threads created to advertise the site but have a heavy emphasis on the "jobs" front should be moved to the "Website Staff" forum.

Threads which are created to advertise the site on a whole (perhaps mentions jobs but not the main emphasis) and provide scope for a discussion to take place should be allowed in the "Show off your websites" forum.

Although I originally suggested it, following a chat with Garion, I don't think a subforum is the way to go here, not only because it would halve the activity in the "Show off your website" parent forum, it would also defeat the object of our attempts to cut down the amount of forums we have.

Prefixes are another possibility but let's face it they're ugly.

Surely if they advertise it on the day it opens, they have a better chance of getting more members :S
Advertising it before with no screen shots and just saying "a new amazing habbo fansite" is useless. If anyone says just that gets them all excited and ready to join, they are lying. Also, if they just provide a link before it opens, people will go on, see the site isnt open yet and most likely forget about it. However, if they went on the site and it was open, they are more likely to join.

    This is what I propose:

You can advertise fully open sites
You can advertise sites that are *opening soon* as long as a full preview of the site is posted - as in a image. This is so people can provide feedback.

Right now, people are posting like this. And its SPAM. It tells you nothing about the site.

I have to say I am usually very nervous in that section if a website isn't anywhere near complete especially to click on any links in case its virused or anything but that is coming from somebody who hasn't a clue about construction of websites. It is show off your website so my personal view is that unless it's well on to the way to completion there doesn't seem to be much point in posting it.

In all honesty I am strictly against telling people precisely what they have to post. Even the post you quoted has scope for discussion, as people can ask questions etc and find out more that way. In all honesty Saurav, it's a forum to which the description reads "Advertise your site here", and they are still advertising, just not going into much detail about their site but like I said, if people are interested they can ask questions.

In that post you gave us we know it's a Habbo fansite, under construction and is going to have a radio - what exactly do you want to see? That's the first link.

Second link - it's a site reopening, the fans of the site know about it and goes into detail about the opening - not spam.

Third link - the site has opened, great example.

Fourth link - it tells you all about it - I asked for examples of sites that don't explain what they are because that's what you said the forum was full of. Out of those four, none of those are what you said.

    Fifth link - granted.

1 out of 5 of those links are what you said.
