Don't know if anyone will understand what I mean, but I see a big difference between the original 151 and all the newer ones. While the original ones were often loosely based on animals/plants etc, they were still pretty imaginative and a lot of them were completely unique creatures. All the new ones I've seen since then however, always seem to be just cartoon animals - basically less imaginative, and they seem to be obsessed with making them look meaner. That's pretty much what lost my interest

I know what you mean, personally I do like the designs of the first Gen Pokémon the most. This is probably because there is a huge amount of nostalgia attached to them. But when you actually think about it the first Gen Pokémon aren't actually that imaginative, the majority were just based on generic animals. I think the second Gen Pokémon have possibly got the perfect mix of imagination and simplicity.

I know what you're saying too. There are some such as Ponyta, Meowth, Eckans and the various birds (plus evolutions of course), but they were still varied rather than just being cartoon animals and there were many others which you couldn't really say look like any real life animals. When the second gen came along, all I was seeing was dogs, sheep, a tree and various other similar-to-life creatures. I also didn't buy the whole idea of suddenly discovering pre-evolutions that nobody had ever seen before lol. Anyway as you say, nostalgia probably makes me biased in favour of the first gen

I was gonna say something along these lines - after gen2 everything seemed to turn into "hey let's get machines as pokemon" and as good as their stats may have been, they were hella boring. Haven't got far into gen4 tbh because the emulator I have is tricky to make work in terms of whether or not it'll decide to save, but even with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald this was pretty apparent. There haven't really been any pokemon since Crystal (well since Gold/Silver actually because Celebi is crap) that I've actually liked, just ones I've put up with for the games.

Exactly! Gold felt like a chore towards the end. I only did the Johto half of it and came out of the cave, and I was just like cba doing Kanto and turned it off lol

    Giaratina is a good legendary and he's a dragon/ghost.
Arceus is the normal legendary and he's the god of all pokemon.

Also, HEART GOLD AND SOUL SILVER WHEN?

    Giratina

    Arceus

Looking pretty robotic to me. I didn't mean steel type I meant it in an entirely aesthetic sense - I don't want to use pokemon who look stupid

the thing i find with all the pokemon generations is that they're exactly the same. ie, you'll have the obvious fire, grass, water starters, which is fair enough, but then you also have the two different flying evoloutions, the bug ones, the awesome psychic trio etcetc. gets kidna boring.
the gold/silver/crystal generation is probably my favourite, i'm contemplating getting a ds just so i can play soul silver
