I actually love how you're so innocent you didn't even realise what you posted one day you will be my bride

On topic, I frankly don't see why anyone feels it's at all necessary to use these abbreviations in the first place whether they're filtered or not. I've just now made posts with the words "crap" and "balls" in them when I'd usually be a lot coarser, but I adapt and it's no big deal whatsoever. It is not a chore to mind what you're saying, especially when you're typing it and so have a chance to go back over it before submission

    |-) I realised what I had said when I got a visitor message from Scottish but it was too late to change it - I guess I meant nurdess if there is such a word.

@gibs960 do you really think that the F in *** isn't swearing? :S
I don't use it either, but I don't particularly mind it as it is not rude in most-if-not-all-cases. It's expressive, like using LOL which exaggerates what is or maybe funny

Why are these filtered anyway, I see no reason as to why they are.

It is annoying though when you write something like "i need to go up the street but i cbf going" (many people would say that in a regular text message or msn convo or over facebook or wherever you socialize via technology, and habbox isn't any different) and you press preview post or submit post and the cbf doesn't get become *** because of the word "****" in it.. You don't always look back and think, hang on! This could be avoiding the filter (i.e a genuine mistake).

All abbreviations of fully spelt filtered words always have been. So putting the ones that are allowed make sense IMHO as the members know exactly which ones are allowed. This is no different to when 'ass' was filtered but it was in the rules for years that LMAO was acceptable. I am coming to the conclusion though, myself, that perhaps it wasn't a good idea as there is no line to draw as to when to stop as members just seem to want them all declared okay and aren't satisfied with the recent easing up on it.
What does the F in LMFAO stand for? or the F in FML, or the F in OMFG?

You got a warning because you broke a rule. I'm glad you did make this thread, as you have provided some interesting points, and got your views across. I think Forum management have made their views clearly too. As someone mentioned earlier it's up to management to decide on what is/isn't allowed, and I don't feel moderators should be to blame. :S

Yes, it may be annoying, but at the end of the day Moderators do not write the rules, we just enforce them based on what we are told is/isn't allowed. Whether it's me or another mod who gave you the warning or infraction is irrelevent. Any other mod would have picked up on this too as it's what we are told that affects our decisions and not personal judgement.

I can see the point a lot of people are making about the comparison between certain words which are allowed and ones which aren't, but it's extremely difficult to find a balance.

One way you allow too much, and nothing ends up filtered, and the whole system gets abused with people throwing things around stupidly, whereas on the other hand everything gets filtered, and people complain because they can't say "common abbreviations". I don't see why it wouldn't just be easier to say "cba" in that situation rather than risking it by throwing in an f and changing it to something more unsuitable.
