3 March 2010 - Increased success in smelting

Previously, when smelting iron ore, there was only a 50/50 chance that it would result in an iron bar (the rest of the time it would just be lost). Now, that success rate has changed so that, at level 15 Smithing, you will succeed 50% of the time, and from level 45 Smithing onwards, you will succeed 80% of the time (gaining an extra 1% chance of success per Smithing level earned in between).

Free players are more likely to have interest in this update, as members have access to rings of forging, a limited-use item that grants 100% success when smelting iron, but this change benefits everybody.

Aren't forging rings 100% success rate though? So yeah, there's still a point to them as without it, it's only 80%.

I'm f2p so this is good update for me... if I wasn't actually smithing mithril

No theirs still a point in them as theres still the 20% chance of failing to smelt, the rings help 100%, personally this benefits f2p more because they dont have the ring to help

Yes thier is a need for them up until level 65 then you get 100% success.

Actually 80% chance is the highest itll go withouts the ring, and thats only at Level 45 Smithing, after that to get the extra 20% you need the ring

No, I thought that too but when it says 1% increase, it actually means:

15 = 50%
16 = 51%

....

45 = 80%

(gaining an extra 1% chance of success per Smithing level earned in between).

and from level 45 Smithing onwards, you will succeed 80% of the time

so yeah for 100%, you'll need the rings and whatever you darn members do
