The fact is, the script is a complete pile of crap before you even edited it. The fact that people have got their panties in a twist is just saddening... this community, the coding community, is built on code sharing and merc (or whatever the hell your name is ross) handled it poorly. Complete loss of respect. Would have been in much more good will to say: "you should have asked however feel free to re-release with the correct credit."

In my personal opinion, if you were this worried about protecting some script that he still left copyright on, you should have specifically said "This script may not be re-released".

If i'm correct (Correct me if im not) You released this under the creative commons licence. Therefore it states if any edits are made then you must release/post/publish it & still give credit to the owner?

Even if it was licensed under cc by the release by Mick is still invalid as it does not comply with the cc by license as section 4. A clearly states:

"You must include a copy of, or the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) for, this License with every copy of the Work You Distribute or Publicly Perform."

and 7A states:

"This License and the rights granted hereunder will terminate automatically upon any breach by You of the terms of this License. "

Therefore Mick is in breach of the license and therefore it is terminated resulting in him being liable for breach of copyright.
