    Default Breaking up train journeys

i'm travelling from nottingham to a town in the south via london st pancreas and then i have to go to waterloo though i wouldn't mind meeting my friend in london for an hour or so for lunch. it says as its an advance ticket im not meant to split up my journey, but i only have a reservation on a train between nottingham and london. has anyone broken up a journey on a change like this before? do the train companies really care?

yeah it does for one leg of the journey but not the other.

plus you are allowed to break 'anytime' tickets but not advance. i'm not too bothered about having to pay for an additional single ticket, but i don't want to be kicked off a train or asked to pay a stupid fare when the single from london to where im goin is £12ish.

I normally buy advance tickets, but they never seem to put a time on mine. Only a date. Does your ticket have a time on? If not, use it any time

Nah if you arent on a particular train for the second leg you can break it up, I used to do it all the time. Just out of interest which train from waterloo is it?

you get an hour to change between st pancreas and waterloo anyway, which should only take about 30mins at most so i guess i probably could make an excuse for another 30 mins anyway.

again it depands on the ticket if you had off peak then you can travel on anytrain at off peak hours. but if it was an advance ticket and you was ont he wrong service then i would wonder what the hell the train were doing because he was not doing his job correctly.

you can only break the return part of your ticket on a off peak ticket or an anytime ticket which means you can get off the train one stop early or say you go from one station to another this mean you dont have to go down to the undergound but travel at street level you can do this on your outbound for the bit via street level.

advance will be a set train/time if you don't go on it then you have to pay the full single or open return fare.

i agree an hour is over the top but depands on what time of the day your are travelling via london because sometime an hour is good to play with if their is delays or the tube is busy and knowing the lines you will be taking would be make your way to waterloo and atlest you are their if the network goes up the wall.

To show what time an advanced ticket is for, you need the seat reservation for the particular train, if you don't have one for the second leg of the journey, you can get any train, I used to travel from Newark North Gate to Reading via Kings X then the underground to Paddington (or Waterloo), and it would give me a ridiculous amount of time in London for change-over until my next scheduled train, I rarely recieved a seating reservation for my London > Reading train, and I got on any train and the ticket was valid. I did this many times.
