It will have to be something completely different though - I mean other than just pressing the button as he always does to unlock doors. Some other mechanism that springs out of it. My mate has like a replica sonic screwdriver which has these bits that pop out but I don't recall seeing what they're for on the show.

aha, well he mentioned it in the first part of this episode because he couldnt get the boy inside, and hes said it numerous times before but yeh, ithe screwdriver shouldnt be able to manipulate the wood or metal lock without something else happening first

I'd laugh if he found out that it can literally undo screws!!! Thinking about it, if the sonic waves can move a lock, surely they can undo screws and therefore on wooden doors he could just take the hinges off?!

True, or the fact that it is actually a screwdriver? thing is, it said that he couldve used hundreds of times, but it could just be a new feature as it regenerated with the TARDIS didn't it??
