    This is a wild stab in the dark, but is it possible that the drives are jumped to be slaves (since they were connected to a network and presumably booted from that network) and would need to be jumped to master drives? Im presuming it's not this, but I am struggling to think of anything else!

    They wouldn't have come up with an XP login screen as he said it did if it was booting over the network.

    ergh, computer cant find hardrive when I want to install something on it, but still carrrys on booting to main screen..

    Im yanking out my harddrive out of my computer and putting it in the old one, see how it goes, will update thread...

    LOOOL, I found out how I did it,

    I removed the cable out of the harddrive (dunno what one cos its different to mine) and plugged in another cable that would be used for the 2nd hardrive and it all worked from there...

    The thing is, why didnt it work before? What was the certain cable wouldnt let me detect the harddrive?

    it was set to cable select instead of a proper boot order maybe
