is your hair thick or thin? if it's thick i recommend like a serum/cream defense. if it's thin then go for sprays

some sprays include tresemme heat protection spray which is what i use & it's about a fiver
toni & guy heat protection which is about ten pound
& then i'm assuming like supermarkets do own brand? that will be cheap too

can't help you much with serums because i don't much about it lol - google might help on that side

To be honest with you, as much as you protect and whatever with heat defence, it will always get a bit damaged.
I find that using a high quality shampoo and conditioner (i cant remember what i use but its in like a kinda eye shaped bottle if your looking at it from the top and the lid pops up when you push one side down, but its like some guys name not a brand) then it really helps to keep the balance.
I found that using serum made my hair really greasy really quickly because of how dry it got aswell so i just stopped using it.
Also when straightening, straighten your hair for longer from the root down to the end rather then doing a quick swipe of it which doesnt really straighten it because that way you dont actually straighten as much, i.e you can do one bit once, just for a bit longer rather then spending alot of time on it doing it over and over again and burning it more.

never straighten your hair when wet/damp. ever. if it smokes, stop straightening and wait for it to dry.
Use repairing shampoo and condition too if it does get bad, i found pantene pro v the gold one, worked really really well and was lush to use too.
to be honest with you, expense is worth it when it comes to looking after your hair when you start straightening.
soon you will learn how to straighten like properly and style with the straighteners good luck!

I would avoid dye (generally on lads it looks terrible) and use conditioner often - really helps your hair recover.

of course straightening every day damages it. heat protector won't do much, it's just a film of silicone over your hair which blocks out moisture and stops heat getting in. sounds good but over time it will make your hair dry.

Don't over-dye or keep bleaching and stripping your hair, that's asking for hell!
i've bleached, dyed, stripped my hair a lot and it's fine. straightening and blow-drying does the most damage imo. you can't "repair" damage, you can only protect your hair or cut it off.

for hair dye, i wouldn't recommend that at all unless you desperately want it dying. the reason for this is that once you have dyed it once, it's a vicious circle because you have to keep dying it every few weeks to maintain the colour to stop the roots from showing their natural colour

if you do decide to dye it, just make sure the hair dye is fully set/absorbed before you continue straightening it - after a few washes should be fine
semi-permenant wouldn't be too much hassle but on light hair colours it can last longer.
also just a tip, don't wash your hair a few days after colouring or it'll fade faster, lukewarm water only.
dying your hair darker makes it more hard work..

it's likely damaged, the silicone in your protector just covers up the damage.

lol my hairdresser always tell me NOT to use pantene, that it's good for a few weeks but you get mega build up. that may be to get me to buy the salons own shampoo+conditioner but they do work better for me..

anyway, might sound disgusting but the best thing for me was to not shampoo my hair every single time. chemicals in shampoo and conditioner dry out your hair (alcohol in each, sls....:/) and are damaging for your body but that's a different debate. it strips away your natural oils, that's why i stopped washing mine so much and i rarely find splits in my hair. that way, you only need to straighten it one day and it'll probably still be straight the next day and more manageable. just my advice anyway, i dye mine often but don't straighten too much..

Oh yeah, also, a HUGE tip that i found recently was that if your hair gets a bit greasy put some talcon (sp?) powder in it and rub it in a bit and it becomes matt finish again.

It really works and no it doesn't turn your hair white.
