It's getting panned on reviews. Badly. Dev Patel apparently being the only redeeming feature of the film and Noah Ringer being labelled as wooden (I could have told you that just looking at his stupid doughball face).
Also many critics stating that it doesn't do the cartoon justice (which they praise as much as you lot).

I can't say I am too surprised but most of the fans were critical of Dev Patel's induction in the film above all else. He has a lot to live up to. Noah Ringer does indeed look very wooden, which is a shame since Aang is the most lively character in the series. I never expected the film to be any good after all of the wonderful pointless changes M. Night made, so I kind of hope it fails to teach him a lesson.

It's a lesson he should have learned already. His films so far have been crap with the exeption of some few and far between and I say that bearing in mind that you're "a fan of his work". He shouldn't be allowed to touch other people's work if this movie is as bad as all the reviews say it is and the series is as good as everyone ITT and the majority of reviewers say it is.

I am a fan of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs and think M. Night is quite a good wirter-director, but he has undoubtedly made some really bad films and for his first adaptation he has taken the completely wrong route. I will wait until I have seen the film before condemning it completely though, as I am hoping it has at least a few redeeming points. Although looking at how M. Night even went and changed the pronunciation of some of the characters' names, I won't keep my hopes too high. Avatar is an original work for goodness sake, there is just no excuse for that. Does he seriously believe fans are going to accept his movie as the new Avatar? What an egomaniac.

There is a new Avatar series hopefully coming out next year.

It is called Avatar: Legend of Korra and Nickelodeon have already started hiring staff for the production. Mike and Bryan (the creators of the original series) are going to be involved and apparently the new series will take place 100 years after the first series and will feature flashbacks involving the original series' characters.

Ooh, sounds good. I hope they don't just use it to milk the **** out of the already awesome series.

You mad. If they wanted to milk the franchise they would have started production on the new series years ago and would have released artbooks, soundtracks, etc. All of which Nickelodeon have failed to do, so there shouldn't be the slightest fear of the producers milking it. Mike and Bryan always said they wanted to revisit the world of Avatar anyway and the fans clearly want something new. At least Avatar won't have to end with the dreadful movie now.

Wow, I have seen soooooo much hate for this movie. I actually can't wait to see how bad it is. Almost everyone is saying they do not want a sequel and those who do only want one if M. Night is not involved at all. Apparently the film is very incoherent, every single bit of information is forced upon the audience, there is no chemistry between the characters and the movie just doesn't flow. Seeing this film bomb is so satisfying after having to endure all of the announcements about the crappy changes and other poor decisions.

That was so painful to watch. The acting is unbearable and the effects are no where near as good as they were made out to be. The action is way too slow and whats with that sequence at 2:03 where six earth benders are doing some crazy moves then one small rock flies by at an incredibly slow speed. That just made me laugh out loud. Is this movie supposed to be serious? Good grief.
