I doubt the 4 or so people downloaded the same crap to get the same virus in less than 24 hours.Im unsure as to how folks are obtaining the virus unless they're silly enough to open random executables pulled from the net around these parts.
I don't use an AV, but it's not because my main OS is OS X. I simply do not download crap. A strategy I encourage everyone to adapt
So you are saying your computer is unprotected??Im unsure as to how folks are obtaining the virus unless they're silly enough to open random executables pulled from the net around these parts.

I have to say I don't download crap and this is the first virus I've had simply because like the other person, I don't download crap. It does seem strange how HxF users appear to be getting, I use another forum (much larger) and if someone gets a virus they'll normally create a thread asking for help because with it being a football forum most users aren't very urr... 'clued up' and I've not seen anything about it so I wouldn't say it's Facebook (although it is a possibility I guess).
Oh and HotelUser... your computer is probably riddled with rubbish if it's unprotected.
It is something that we are investigating thoroughly at this moment in time and hope to resolve as soon as possible. I think the risk of it being on Habbox Forum or Habbox itself is highly unlikely but nevertheless we are fully aware of the possibility and are therefore endeavouring to clarify whether this is, or is not the case.
In the mean time we encourage you to be cautious with what sites you visit and what you download, and ensure your virus protection is fully up to date and in working order.

I would also advise everyone to use adblock plus and noscript for firefox.

After some reading around, it seems there was a security flaw in windows. Microsoft released a patch on 2nd august to fix it; this is http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...y/2286198.mspx
TURN ON WINDOWS AUTOMATIC UPDATES!!
Is that what this is though? I did hear about this.I would also advise everyone to use adblock plus and noscript for firefox.

Yeah but the flaws in windows was down to a shortcut flaw which allowed hackers to abuse this and redirect shortcuts to virus' or something like that.
I recently had a rogue antivirus attack, first a trojan downloader got in, then 10 of them started to pop up very quickly.
It auto-installed, no clicking involved, i just had websites open, none had any warnings, youtube etc. when all of a sudden, a rogue antivirus pops up saying "you are infected" seconds later AVG conferms the rogue antivirus and tries deleting all of them.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
That anti-malware is the best in my opinion, its specially designed for rogue antivirus' etc and can clean up your registry keys if they are infected - found 17 infections on my computer, all deleted now.
Does anyone elses sometimes open up a link to a viagra website? Mine did it twice (I've had the virus four times)... only did it when I left it for about 30 minutes because I couldn't be bothered removing it asap :}
Could have a hella load of fun with his ports
