I'd go for the iPhone 4. No point buying outdated hardware brand new .
    What? Just... no.

Apple uses EXACTLY the same hardware as other manufacturers. INFACT It comes from the same factory most of the time (Foxconn's).

And oh look, a Dell with better specs, monitor, keyboard, mouse and Windows included... for cheaper. Yes, your point has just been totally smashed into tiny little shards with my pownage hammer.

(Sorry, didn't get the price, it was ~£679, you can check on their site if you really want to).

To be honest you buy a Mac for it's appeal - it's a beautiful machine and once you're used to it, OS X is wonderful.

And the iPhone 4 is definitely NOT crap, anyone who says this has clearly never owned one themselves.

I don't see why people are recommending outdated hardware, the iPhone 4 murders the iPhone 3GS as long as you use a case

I'm not talking about equivalent cheaper components, I'm talking about the identical components that Apple uses. Take the screen of the iMac for example, the cheapest you can get it elsewhere is the Dell $999 Screen, sure you could get a screen thats the same size for $200 but the point is it isn't the same. Apple use the most expensive and arguably the best components. Speed isn't everything, you need to take into account the quality of the build.

What 'bugs' are people referring to :S the bugs on the iPhone 4, are the same as 3GS because they run the same iOS.. The only difference is this signal business. Which doesn't even matter. They're offering free cases to everyone who buys one before September 30th. And even without a case, it hasn't affected me

    Dell screen:
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...284&redirect=1
Processors: Both come from Intel factories
Motherboards: Dell and Apple get them from Foxconn
DVD/CD drives will come from somewhere like Samsung or Hitachi for both of them.
The same applies for all the components.

I think the only thing you can really say is better quality is POSSIBLY the IPS display, which you could buy elsewhere anyway.

Oh and also that Dell monitor you linked to is actually FAR FAR better than the one in the iMac, in it's size and resolution for two examples.

It's identical in specs to the £1399 iMac which is what I was comparing it too except the iMac casing looks nicer and has all of the other components built into the screen.

Lets look at the most expensive iMac.

    PC
    27" 2560 x 1440 monitor: $1049
    Lian Li PC-C37B case: $130
    Corsair 400w PSU: $50
    Intel LGA 1156 P55 Mobo: $150
    Intel Core i5-760: $210
    Gigabye Radeon 5750: $150
    G-Skill 4GB PC1333: $90
    WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM HD: $60
    DVD-RW: $20
    Windows 7 Home OEM: $100
    Intel WiFi adapter: $25

    Total: $2034

    iMac
Total: $1999 or $1899 with free iPod Touch (student)

The appeal? A machine that does the same thing as another machine for more money and little advantages? :S Windows 7 wipes the floor with OS/X, if you ever look into the details. It's takes plug and play to a new level, by picking up dog muck and rubbing it in Apples face before they say "You're holding it wrong."

But that is of course, opinion and use. The iPhone 4 isn't crap, but my golly the company behind it sure make themselves look like crap with their handling of the iPhone 4 fiasco

EDIT: Anyone who says Apple use the best components really does have their head in a hole. It's only been recently Apple have bothered to bring in the iSeries Intel processors, while any other OS and machine has had them for months, and then you still get a wider choice of what processor to use without being ripped off.

EDIT Again: Seperate minotors is a good thing, means when one thing goes wrong you do not have to send the whole thing back There's an image online somewhere comparing when a webcam goes wrong on an Apple iMac and a PC (possibly Dell). The whole "less cables" argument is for the weak minded, seeing as cables are not seen or heard :/

And this is, of couse, opinion
