Will this replace MOTM completely or will MOTM still be running? Also if you don't mind me asking, how were the winners of MOTM chosen?

I wanted to know this, but really I knew the answer from an old fansite from where I was MOTM.

Anyway, I like the idea of a posting competition, but will it really proves who posts the most? As people woud just post as they know they could win VIP for it. It would have been better not to tell people, and just annunce it at the end of the month. Of course the next month would then be spammed, I guess there is no loop hole.

And you say, you are discounting posts, wouldn't that be time consuming? Shoudn't you be running the forum, not countng posts?

I've written a script that does it for me. It's then not time consuming to then look back over the months usernotes for anything pointless from the top few.

tbh looking at this competition makes me think hxf is failing and management needs to practically beg users to post

I don't see the point in putting "Note: Posts will not be counted in forums with post count disabled" in small :S :S

Anyway, Oli tried it once, it worked. He took the risk and tried it again and it failed badly. Useless competition really.

From previous posting competitions, it always felt like Oli wasn't really pleased with the end result (felt like, I didn't ask him :p) as it was really only a couple of people who really went for it (saurav and naughtynemo the first time, muct and samlouise - who both got disqualified lol - during the hxss one) and others who either gave up or posted as normal.
    I had this feeling too.

Here are the results for the posting competition which are somewhat shameful!!!
It's worded in such a way that it's seemingly the members' fault that the competition failed; which I did find rather ignorant.

Still, I don't think this is a competition as such.. just a way to reward the top poster each month. I, for one, won't be posting any more than I usually do, but I know if I was a frequent poster I'd like to be rewarded for it.

Yeah it was actually his shameful competition.

Its actually the posting competition which has made me stop posting. I tried to win it and posted so much that I just got bored. Now I make what? 1-2 posts a day ...

I'm not really too bothered about winning the monthly one, but I wouldn't mind the "Habbox God" golden username. Problem is - there's no threads to reply to.

Dare I say we need immense back to create some pointless discussions?

I don't like to call it a competition as people enter competitions to win. That would mean people are posting around the forum a lot to win when that really isn't what the system is there for. The idea is that it will slot in with the Member of the Month announcement to reward dedicated users of the forum. It's inevitable that for the first couple of months we will get people going out of their way to post but as time goes by we should soon start to see people winning that haven't gone out of their way over the month to post, but have actually just posted quite normally. I think it's safe to say that it is these people we want to see getting recognised and rewarded for their great dedication to HxF.

I think Apple sums it up here really. Initially it is obvious that people will attempt to post loads in order to win the prize but these individuals will be carefully monitored to ensure that their posts provide at least some substance and don't consistently post in the "What are you listening to" thread (or similiar). However, after a couple of months (or potentially even before, given that you are all so resigned to not bothering with it) it will merely be used as a method to recognise those who post regularly and constructively across the forum.

We're not at all "desperate" for people to post, but I'm not going to pretend that we don't like it when people post more often. Wouldn't anyone when they are trying to run a forum?! I assume anyone with any sense of ambition would. So no, we're not desperate, but we are keen to offer members incentives to post regularly and constructively so as to improve overall contribution to the forum and the discussion it offers. I don't see any harm in that?
