If someone reports a post they get a reply saying why it wasn't removed, that way people won't report posts for the wrong reasons in the future. Its annoying when you report a post that pisses you off and nothing gets done. It makes you feel like your in the wrong, when maybe that might even be the reason.

I completely agree! Before I joined the moderation department, I reported posts a lot and sometimes Catzsy would PM me and explain why my post report wasn't dealt with. Was very helpful to me so I'm sure it would be too others too if this was done .

    Not online very often

This sounds good the only downside is that it will take up alot of time to do this because their is alot of post reports daily.

If I spot someone continuously reporting something that isn't against the rules then I will PM them, other than that there simply isn't the time to go through every non applicable post report and contact the reporter. Days can vary of course but sometimes there's just too many to allow for a proper system like this to happen. If you're unsure of a particular rule you can always contact a (s)mod or Jamesy and Sarah who would be able to clarify the rule further for you if you're having trouble. Also, if you have reported a post and feel it's been ignored then again you can PM James/Sarah who would be willing to look into it.

I don't think it's possible for us to PM in every single case, since there are often many posts which get reported that don't actually require any action. but yeah, if it pisses you off, often a simple PM to one of us will be able to put your mind at ease.

Yes. This section is for suggestions too.

Anyway, it would be nice but mods already have to follow heaps of rules and stuff. I think this should be encouraged but optional.

    Yes it should.

And I do agree Richie, I remember the other week, I wanted to know why a post wasn't classed as pointless, and that was because I didn't know staff got treat differently.

It does piss me off also. Thanks for bringing this up. It would be good, but of course I know some may just do it for a laugh or something, but it may improve for the future when people are reporting a post.

Edit: Josh that seems fairer if it was optional.

I'm not going to send mods a pm everytime I report someone, most of the time if I report something it normally always gets ignored even when I have a valid point why it should removed. The majority of the posts reported will be spot on, those that aren't but may be slightly right should get a pm. Unless you want me to just set up a template and il pm you each time my report gets ignored :S fair enough.

edit: if ppl are taking the piss abusing the tool, warn them. Simple as. Oh and forum management should be allowed remove staff posts if they are breaking rules. I know oli is meant to do it but thats one person lol? hes not on all the time. It just seems like staff and normal members don't get treated equally.

    For example:

Oli has his own opinion whether a post should be removed or not. However there is much more forum staff and those will hold different opinions on different posts. The odds to us could be like 10/1 yet for staff its like 1/1 :S

If you're that concerned though, surely a simple PM to a supermoderator asking about a particular rule wouldn't hurt? It actually occurs a LOT where people report things that are borderline and quite a few post reports just don't quite merrit action. To PM each of these would take a considerable amount of time, and if there are more post reports to be done/other things we're required to do as moderators then there isn't always time to do this.

I like the idea of it being optional, and some moderators do this when a trend is spotted in someone reporting something not against the rules. However, it isn't everybody that wants to know this, and if you're concerned that a post has not been dealt with correctly then sure go ahead and PM us/forum management about it. It's often down to the same types of rulebreaks (mostly pointless posting etc) and once you get clarification on this it doesn't become an issue anyway.
