I always thought Fellowship was the weakest.

As did I, but after about seven viewings of each film Fellowship is by far the best in my opinion. The entire main cast work wonders as an ensemble and while the film may take a while to get going, it has the balance and best pace out of the entire trilogy, not to mention no less than five pefectly executed emotional scenes and an impressive climax and I also feel Fellowship has the best soundtrack out of the trilogy.

At first it seems people get caught up in the action of the trilogy and just cast Fellowship aside as simply exposition. Fellowship does indeed lack a little in action compared to the other two, but I feel there is so much more development than in Towers and Return (naturally) and as the first Lord of the Rings film it does an absolutely flawless job of introducting us to Middle Earth and its inhabitants, the adventure aspect is most definitely more prominent than in the other two films. Fellowship is a film that grows on you over time.

Although I haven't watched the trilogy in a while, may pick up the bluray, I just felt that Fellowship didn't really have a punch to it. Know what I mean? When emotion, action and intrigue all mix together; that's when a film is fantastic. Towers and Return manage that perfectly, perhaps playing off each other, in some respects the plot threads set up in Fellowship aren't exactly necessary or interesting further along the franchise.

Although I'm a bigger fan of the books than the films.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part 1. It is so good so that is my favourite yet however when the DVD of both part come out like this time next year then I think the whole movie will be fantastic (I hear that the best battles are in part 2) but I don't want a really lame ending though.

Of course, it was the last in the trilogy so it had to go out with a bang, but Fellowship was the first, climax wasn't what it was trying to achieve. And no, I don't really get what you mean, sorry. Fellowship does mix emotion, action and intrigue just as well as Towers and Return (especially Towers which is clearly lacking in emotion compared to Fellowship and Return, so I don't really understand how you can say is blends all of those things perfectly). It sets the story and tone and introduces us to the world, the Moria and Uruk-hai in the woods action sequences are several notches above brilliant and Gandalf's fall along with Boromir's death are incredibly emotional. Of course Fellowship is a spring board for the other two films - it's the first in the trilogy, it has to be - but that doesn't make it any less interesting. The only plot thread I perhaps found a little lacking was Aragon and Arwen's relationship, but that is present in all films so saying it is only unnecessary and uninteresting in Fellowship isn't exactly fair. But of course there is no accepted best and worst, it is all down to personal preference, so it looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree, and for the record I am a bigger fan of the films than the books.

I was underwhelmed by The Fellowship of the Ring. I found the ending so abrupt.
