Game of the year?

For me, in terms of quality, Super Meat Boy or New Vegas.

In terms of 'advancement of the industry' then Kane and Lynch 2, is showed us just how awesome the year is, acting as a mirror. For that it deserves to be remembered.

Don't they normally include games that came out in early January as the year before? Or is it the other way around? (Late December releases classed as the year after).
