afaik there's no such thing as a virtual dedicated server. Unless you are infact talking about a vPs (virtual private server).

Some companies call VDS their range when they're using Xen HVM or similar for full virtualisation and only maybe 4 virtual machines per server. So it's like a big VPS really with your own kernel.
