Everything should be moving towards it. I personally wouldn't buy an ethernet cable that wasn't CAT 6 anymore. They're like only a few pence more expensive than CAT 5e
CAT 6 is a cable made of higher quality materials and with better shielding than CAT 5e, CAT 5e is the same upgrade, but over standard CAT 5.
These things are important. The max speed CAT 5 cables are certified to handle is 100Mbps, CAT 5e 1000Mbps (1Gbps) and CAT 6 up to 10Gbps (up to 55m in length) when it becomes available, CAT 6a 10Gbps and up to 100m in length.
