We'd only lose 25 if they -repped us because of how that's set up (unless that's changed since I last knew) but I agree that countering the "problem" of older users having lots of reputation by giving extra to new members doesn't make any sense

With general management going on about how rep is becoming "worthless" because of too much being given out (although I disagree with that), this looks like a case of do as I say not do as I do !

I think Jin would have chose admins for a reason. Probably because they can be trusted to use it appropriately and fairly based on rewarding good posts that contribute well to the forum etc. Jin is entitled to do/try out whatever he likes if he thinks it's going to be for a good reason and I'm sure it wasn't just done randomly.

A while back it was changed so administrators could have the rep power they have earned as for most of us this was higher than 15 anyway, I believe Jin changed it to 50 a few days ago to test something so I'm sure he will change it back when he has finished

No for some reason the admin setting for rep takes the full whack, or it wouldn't be as bad. I personally disagree with admins having 50 rep points and I think with 6 of us having this rep will increase overall everywhere as I know I like to give rep to all kinds of memebers (not just new ones).

I've recommended to Jin if he wants an admin rep to set it at 25, as this is a fair amount and still above most (which I think were the reasons for the 15 in the first place).

However, this is Jin's forum and if he wants us to have 50 rep, we'll have 50 rep.

Admin reps have been set to 50 to help bump newer members along. Though you do have your right to feedback we also do have our right to make changes and just because people don't agree with them doesn't mean we will change it.

Well isn't this a lovely turn of events! Either way the 50 rep isn't that big an issue to me.

Mmm I agree, I'm not sure which way this was intended to be used but surely it would be hard to single out who admins are giving rep to etc, since the whole purpose of rep is to award it fairly to people who make contributions and not to go round singling people out just because they're new etc. It will mean everyones will be going up by a very large amount at the same time which kinda defeats the object.

Personally I don't think an admin rep is needed at all. Most admins rep power is higher/high enough anyway and members should be trusted to be able to use the rep system appropriately based on what rep power they have worked their way up to.

I think in some cases this whole thing has been taken a bit out of proportion, it's not a permanent thing by the looks of it, and only affects admins. If the Community AGM can get by on 8 rep power and be happy that It's what I've earnt and use it for the benefit of the community for what it's worth, then I'm sure everyone else could too, but it's not an overly important issue and it's not doing much harm at all. Jin is just trying something by the sounds of it.

Oh sneaky didn't know it worked differently for admins, and yeah I quite agree with you in that rep was nerfed way back when because there was "too much" of it (which is an odd concept in my view) and whenever a full return to the old system has been suggested we're told that it would alienate new members if some of us had very large rep power, and that this outweighed the idea that with more rep power we could accelerate new member reps, which seems to be the reasoning behind today's change to admin accounts
