Exclamation My account keeps getting hacked, please help!

    Hello,

My RuneScape account keeps on getting hacked, I have tried changing my password & everything. I have not told anybody my new password & my account still manages to get hacked. I have tried getting Jagex to get back to me about it but they won't answer me or anything. I have even tried telling them that it is 'IMPORTANT as it is about MY ACCOUNT getting HACKED'. If somebody has any suggestions or anything that I can use/do to stop my account ever being hacked again.

P.s. Sorry about my bad grammar.

You either have malicious software on your computer or somebody knows your account recovery details. There's a thread on the Runescape Official Forums under the Account Help section called "Hijacked? Post Here!". Post your account name in that thread and your post will be looked into. Bear in mind that this is often a rather long process and can take a couple of weeks to get sorted out.

Download a good antispyware/antimalware program and clean your system of any unwanted beasties that might be lurking. If you can't find anything (Make sure to scan with more than one, just to be sure!) then it's likely that it is somebody that you know, so once your account is cleaned make sure to set some recovery questions that ONLY YOU will know the answers to.

There is plenty of info here as well as a helpful list of virus protection software. I would strongly recommend malwarebytes antimalware and Nod32 =)

Thanks kyle, I will have look on the RuneScape forums & do that. Also I already have setup my recovery questions to what only I know. I am also the only person that has access to my laptop. I also have an anti-virus software called 'ZoneAlarm' :/ .

zonealarm is a good firewall but as far as its antivirus/antispyware is concerned it will not detect or remove some rootkits/viruses etc that better software is able to find and get rid of instantly. Look at the link I provided and scroll down to the 6th post.

    Post 6: VIRUS FREE!

To keep your computer virus free, you are going to have to:

    1) Use a safe browser
    2) Use an updated Virus protector
    3) Update your computer (Check Index for full post on this)
    4) Don't install pirated software on your RS machine. Also don't use KeyGen's on your machine.
    5) Don't ever go to RS botting sites and don't even download bots.

    *1*

    Use a safe browser:

There are many types of browsers out there, but using a SAFE one and one that is not either in BETA mode or one that is new is essential.

Suggested browsers by users and JaGeX:
*note: these are in NO way listed from best to least*

    -Internet Explorer
    -Firefox
    -Safari
    -Google Chrome
    -Opera

    ===========

    *2*

    Use an updated virus protector

Using a virus protection product is very important while surfing the web, and it is almost as important that it is updated.

The reason why: Hackers and other people like that do not care about your computer's well being. Every so often, a new kind of virus, trojan or worm will be created, and the virus companies will do everything they can in their power to try and stop them from breaking the firewall to your computer. Having a virus protecting program will stop most of these viruses, and using a default Windows firewall will not.

Recommended Virus protecting products from users:
*note: these are in NO way listed from best to least*

    -Norton AntiVirus 2011* (Norton 360)
    -Norton Internet Security*
    -AVG 9.0
    -McAfee 2011 Security Software*
    -Avast!
-Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 (free trial)
    -SandBoxie
    -Webroot*
    -Superantispyware
    -Malwarebytes Antimalware
    -NOD32*
    -Microsoft Security Essentials

    * = Costs money to uphold the program for a generous amount of time

(If you have more virus protectors that you find great and worth the while, please post them!)

Scanning the computer at a scheduled scan is recommended weekly to make sure that your computer is always virus free.

I have the payed version though. It is constantly scanning in the background & deletes any virus's & things that it detects before they manage to get anywhere near your firewall & pc. In just this month alone it has wiped out 238 Trojan's.

I do agree though the payed version is not that good, but the payed version is alot better. It also does a 2-3 hour scan through the whole of your pc just to double check nothing has managed to slip through undetected.

I also always keep my laptop up to date, I hate using things that are out of date. I never use/download keygens or pirated software. I have one bot on my pc called ******* but that is made by RuneScape itself, it is also safe aswell. I know this because nearly all of my family use it when they play RuneScape & nothing has ever happened to their account. My browser is also Google Chrome version 12.0.742.91.

The fact the bot name is filtered on this forum means it isnt made by jagex, i know this mainly because the fact i asked for runescape bot names to be filtered on the forum - my point is runescape dont make bots.,
    Also 238 trojans, thats alot..

It is made by Jagex, I don't know why it is filtered on habbox, probs contains a word that they have filtered. But it definately is made by Jagex. And I know that, they did make this one though, I think they have done it so as it makes it a little easier for them to catch botters out. And yh lol, I always go on chatting sites & stuff lol .

Jagex don't make bots, lmao! I was referring to the payed version of ZoneAlarm when I said that it is awful. If you aren't using an additional antimalware software then I think now that you've been hacked and keep getting hacked, it would be apropos to do so. Just sayin.
