I've set up my home network on my netbook, I'll set it up on the pc soon and add my hard drive. Also as somebody (Page 1) said, I will be plugging it in (power source) and having the USB go to the PC, I'm going to have to change the PC's Internet connection so it's coming from the wireless router instead of the wired modem.

I'll reply later with what I get
    Thanks guys.

So I got it working, I connect the desktop which is running on WinXP to the wireless router and then I don't really know what I did since at the start I had problems with the hard drive but I shared the hard drive through the "Explore" menu.

Problem: It works fine but I'm not sure how to disable it, I mean if I decided I don't want it any more how can I remove the computer from the network, I can stop file sharing easily enough through the Internet or Network (not sure of name) Connections Menu but on my netbook the name still shows up.

Also it shows "Internet Gateway" on the desktop, it showed on the netbook but I disabled that. I'm not sure of what this is, could somebody explain it and possibly tell me how to disable it if it's required.

Problem(2): I put both computers workgroups to: WORKGROUP and then it showed up again after disappearing but now the computers show up twice.
