If I wanted to be a dj what equipment would i need like djing software etc

When you say DJing do you mean simply playing music or actually creating your own, mixing songs and creating new mixes as they are two different things.


SAM Broadcaster is mainly for presenting while something such as Virtual DJ is for mixing. There's also programs such as FL Studio (Formally Fruity Loops), Cubase, Reason and so on. It all depends on what you want.

And When you say equipment do you just mean software or are you looking at purchasing actual equipment such as a professional condenser microphone and a mixer

He said equipment and software there's sadly a difference between the two.

While presenters do get called DJ there's an actual difference between presenting and actual DJ'ing and that's why you don't hear on radio one this is DJ Chris Moyles you hear just Chris Moyles as he plays music as opposed to actual mixing.

If he just want's to present you can get SAM Broadcaster, a microphone and some music but if he want's to actual DJ, Mix music and create his own he'd need a lot more.

To what petey said about DJs i agree to an extent but not fully. The word DJ or disc jockey refers to "a person who selects and plays recorded music for an audience ... all forms of music playback, no matter the medium." - Wikipedia. Thus it is incorrect to say that the people on radio are not DJs and the people who play music in clubs are. Just because they don't use the word DJ before their real names does not mean that they are not DJs, it's simply unnecessary in their opinion. On an amateur level though it is not a rare sight to see it. If he wanted to mix his own music wouldn't that make him a producer to an extent rather than a DJ due to the fact that a DJ's main job and purpose is to play the music not to make it.

As far as being a DJ on a fansite goes Sam Broadcaster is the way to go in software and as Matt said www.rbguides.com is the best choice. If you want to improve your shows with other equipment a DJ Mixer or an audio interface would be some hardware that you might want to consider. On the other hand if you want to be a music producer on the other hand Mixcraft is a fairly decent program to use.

And that's not true, pre-recorded loops allow a person to create their own mixes in a matter of minutes.

Yeah just the fact he said equipment instead of software made me wonder if he was wanting to take it to another level.
