Past it? Past what? He's had no 'glory days' so to speak.

He's never had a shot at the 'big time', he deserves this transfer imo. I think he'll be superb at Arsenal.

Arsenal have been chasing Arteta for years, don't really know why it's taken them so long.

However, that said, Arteta and Benayoun aren't replacements for Fabregas and Nasri. No way.

Not replacements, no. They could have done worse. When United lost Ronaldo they signed Valencia, although both good players, there's no way that Valencia was a replacement and look how well they've done. Can't really compare Arsenal and United any more though.

Yeah and other players have stepped up and collectively filled the gap, although we can't have claimed to replace a player like that because when he left he was the best in the world.

Yesterday i think QPR did some good deals to get in Anton and SWP two players with the sort of PL experience you need to stay up and then build from there other than that it wasn't exactly "exciting". Ars were always going to do something but they never had the time or wage funds to secure a big player needed if they were going to be in a chance to challenge.

One which confused me a little was Belemy(sp?) to liverpool? It didn't really work first time and he spent the last year playing in the championship and wouldn't have made the citeh 25 (guessing that's why he left because no way liverpool can pay his high wage demands which stopped him going to cardiff). Doesn't really bother me and they have Carroll and Suarez as first choice just seems odd for someone who could get 40 games a season at a PL or Top champ club?

United could afford to lose Ronaldo though, they had Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez at the time and had a squad full of quality players anyway.

They were only 1 point off winning the title the season after they lost Ronaldo so it didn't really make that much of a difference.

Past it, as in past his best. Yes he did have 'glory days'. During the 06/07 season and around that time he was very good, but he's dropped off quite a bit recently. He needs to be superb, because there's a lot depending on him.

Gervinho is Nasris replacement really, Benayoun is depth.

£432m in 2009 was the record before I think, £485m is the figure I'm seeing for this summer
There's no way that Meireles handed in a transfer at 10:30, that was only the time that Sky found out about it. I don't really rate him to be honest and I'm surprised that Villa Boas bought him seeing as he was quick to get rid of him at Porto. Hopefully Chelsea thought they actually thought they stood a chance at getting Modric all summer. Bizarre that they still haven't bought a decent RB, or another CM.

Gervinho and Mertesacker = only good signings of note.

If anyone likes Andre Santos, then you haven't seen him play before because he can't defend for ****, but I hope he proves me wrong, he's a good attacker and Sagna is a top defender so hopefully they balance out and Song actually sits deep.

Basically our squad has grown in number but our starting XI is a lot worse.

Benayoun isn't a bad loan, just a shame Chelsea don't see us as rivals really anymore.
So surprised with Wenger, Arteta/Benayoun are not fit to lace Fabregas' boots. I genuinely thought that Wenger would have planned for his departure as soon as Cesc announced his intention to leave Arsenal 1/2 seasons ago. Crazy stuff, I genuinely think that this Arsenal side is the worst in my life time and is in serious danger of missing out on the CL next season.

Anyway, regarding Spurs, pretty dissapointed. Parker and Friedel are short sighted signings, Harry knows that he's getting the England job next year- I would have been happy to pay for the £6m release clause at get Carlo in charge. Content with Scott 'run 20 yards with the ball, turn around and pass it backwards' Parker but I was hoping to sign another centre back, striker and wing forward. Hopefully Harry is telling the truth when he says that GDS may finally be given a chance. It seems we spent most of the summer chasing Giuseppe Rossi, who I like, but was never going to come after Villarreal sold Cazorla (GR could have been bought for £18m last summer). Despite my dissapointment re: incomings I'm delighted to finally get rid of some of the deadwood. Sad to see Sgt. Wilson go but he wasn't the same player since he found out about his brother's death.

Btw Stoke... paid £16m for 2 strikers that scored 7 PL goals in 63 games last season.

Personally, I think getting in to CL is the least of Arsenals problems!

Can't see Arsenal making it back into the champions league for next season. They will play Europa League. Sorry Arsenal fans.

I'm reckoning a tight battle between United and City for top spot, then again depending on how well Villas-Boas gets Chelsea going then it could be a three horse race. Liverpool are looking good and will take fourth. Spurs have had a tough start with both Manchester Clubs (i think) but they will quickly get back to the Europa League spots and battle it out with Arsenal for 5th.

Well after Leeds selling/releasing 2-3 of their best players, we sign no-one significant in the transfer window. Looks like the loan market is going to be our only option to get some quality players in, if we dont its going to a mid-table finish.
