This may sound like a ridiculous idea but sometimes people may want advice but fear to ask for it as they may look like a plonker or people may use that content which may be embarrassing against them in the future. I'm not scared about asking for advice on here but sometimes i feel like a *** for asking it and would prefer to stay anonymous, is there not a feature that you could implement where people could ask a question anonymously? Obviously people could abuse it but you could simply not allow it in spam and only allow the person who is creating the thread to post it anonymously and / or if it is a stupid question or doesn't necessarily need to be hidden, mods could their discretion and change it.

The forum has been open for 7 years so I'm assuming this question popped up at least once, so if it isn't possible for it to be implemented, if possible i'd like to know why?

If this was implemented and I had a question, I still wouldn't post it due to the fact that you can't 100% trust moderators, and they could tell someone secretly and it'll pass around.

I'm neutral on idea as i've never had to use the internet for advice and stuff but yeh

In reply to Calv, if the moderator denied anonymity then perhaps the user would be asked whether to post the question using their name or discard of the post.

That's the thing though, I'd take the risk and if anything did get leaked you could kick up a fuss and complain that they moderators aren't trust-worthy and then obviously they would have to fix that fault in their system. Either way we are supposed to trust moderators and as of yet i haven't really experienced any problems with them leaking information.

Btw HI CALV haven't spoke to you in ages.

I suppose you're correct and I haven't really come across anyone like that in the moderation department, mainly other departments.

It's a good idea though and I'm sure there is a modification available on vb.org somewhere.

And I know right! Pop me up.

That is a pretty cynical view. I really do not think this is true and if it was and it happened they would be sacked straightaway. I am not sure if it could be done but it certainly is worth considering.

This really - and lets be honest, the moderators are not all angels (no matter what they are forced to appear as), not saying they are all dodgy, but it is hardly a hard thing to do to leak information..

I believe it's possible with plugins installed. But is it something people would really want and would it be used on a regular basis? Anything you post will hardly be anonymous as there is still ways to see who you are via IP addresses and other means. Obviously that would be leaking information but do you want to take the risk for the chocolate biscuit? Ok bad joke but point still stands. If it was me wanting to ask advice, I would either ask people privately or just do it on another forum as therefore they don't have a clue who you are if you have a different username to what you have used in the past. But I'll see what other people say on the matter!

it wouldn't really be 'anon' though, mods, super mods, admins etc will all have to see who wrote it because of security issues like breaking rules

It is not hard but I cannot remember an instance when it has happened and if it does it should be reported.
