tagging users in posts?

I've used forums that use @tagging and I found it very useful.

It does sounds like a very good idea and I'm guessing it would work the same way as quoting someone? If so then I'm pretty sure that it will be very useful for people and if it becomes annoying just disable it, simples.

It could perhaps be more advanced and notify users, but if you just wanted a link to profile tag - that already exists.

Indeed but it seems no one really takes advantage of that but maybe they will if it was advanced more.

Well, I think the reason it's not used is because nobody knows about it - hence it not being mentioned once in this thread until now

I use this all the time and it's really useful. I think notifications for it would be good, but it may become abused which would be rather annoying.
