Pretty cool but to me just seems a bit pointless?

Sometimes pointless things can be rather intriguing ^.^

Apparently I have this planes departure and arrival details flying over me right now....

Yeah I've known this site and some others for a while now. They are quite cool and can be quiet interesting, especially when the ash cloud last year stopped loads of flights in Europe and you could see the impact of that by using the site.

Well when testing new planes Boeing and Airbus have to do long stress tests, so they just plotted a route around the US. However, since it doesn't matter where they go they spelt out 787 and the Boeing logo.
