and no, just because you whip a horse does not mean that they horse is going to go it.
and even if the horse was running because it wanted to stay in a herd, it wouldn't bother to jump all of the jumps.
You run for 4 and half miles, you jump the huge jumps and you break your leg. See how fun it is then.
I am not going to continue this argument as you clearly do not know that much about horses therefore it is no good for me to explain to you about them. At the end of the day, a life is a life. Weather it be a horse or humans.

P.s, There are such things as pain killers that can be given to a recovering horse and I am not saying, putting down is cruel. All im saying is horses die in this race and it should be made much more safe then it is.

lol ok then. i don't know anything about horses clearly.
if you're willing to keep a horse alive when it's in an incredible amount of pain then you don't deserve to set foot next to one, let alone get on it or own one. you're just cruel.

I am fed up of this "the horses don't have a choice" well of course, they are horses. The horses don't have a choice to race thats true, but neither do the cows, pigs and sheep on your dinner plates.

    Three other points,

    - Horses race and jump in the wild, often resulting in broken limbs and agony as there is nobody to put them down immediately like at the Grand National.
    - If horse racing were banned tommorow, thousands upon thousands of horses around this country would have to be put down as they would no longer serve a purpose.
    - A great deal of people, thousands, depend on horse racing for a livelihood. That also includes rural communities.

On a side note, I used to live on the estate just next to the Grand National.

Why some of you guys are betting cause you like the name etc.? I mean my father likes to gamble and one of the things he has gambled is horse racing. He has won a lot of bets and for some reason, he said it's not that hard to win one cause apparently, he analyze the previous results etc..

When there's 44 horses in a race you don't know who's going to win. 33-1 horse won it - did your magical future telling father predict that? No. It's called gambling, not winning.

love how it was probably you gave me -rep for being clueless but you're the one saying you can give a horse painkillers for a broken leg?
erm.. no, it'll never heal as horses need to be up, they can't lie down all the time, and if they're stood up it's going to make the leg worse.
it's not the jumps that are unsafe, it used to be a lot worse and there's no evidence that there was a greater number of horses that died, it's the number of horses that run in the race.
oh and if you can get a horse to jump by whipping it you've clearly been riding riding school horses who do grammatically anything you ask them.
trying riding a 'real' horse then get back to me

Laughing at half of the pathetic arguments in this thread

I always have and will think horse racing is cruel. Eating meat does not relate to horse racing at all - those animals are practically part of the food chain, where as horse racing it just wrong. If you see what I mean.

Really sorry for the horses that died! (Not sure if there was more than one)

You just said what I've been wanting to say to this user however, I didn't want to seem as if I was retaliating. + Rep for you Cerys
