The next president of the World Bank is expected to be named next week, and for the first time the US is facing a real challenge over the bank's leadership

A small number of economically powerful countries provide most of the institution's funding and get to choose the leadership and senior management. As a result, critics argue, their interests - and especially those of the US - are prioritised.

The candidates in the running for the World Bank's top job are: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is the current Nigerian finance minister and a former managing director of the World Bank. She has the endorsement of the African Union.

Not going to lie, I hadn't even heard of the world bank until this news story initially popped up a few months(?) ago. After researching it, it seems like a very pointless institution. Though should there really be a president if it is a world bank? Shouldn't all views be equal? It won't make a difference anyway.

I really hope that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala wins it so she can send emails out to everyone in the world starting with "Hello, I am a wealthy Nigerian banker..."

She's Nigeria's finance minister and managing director of World Bank. She's the best candidate and yet, a silly Korean American doctor was selected as the next president.
