Probably didn't realise it was going to be a problem until now. I assume a company got involved and contacted MS, the legal issues haven't really been explained.

Although I would of thought they would pay to use the name as it is quite a good name. But there isn't much details on the matter.

Unfortunately only scroll gestures seem to be working for me, and I can't get the swipes working to show my charm bar, as well as the other gestures I read about. *hopefully* this is just a driver problem and will be fixed.

Also I'm sort of surprised. I thought Windows 8 would have smooth and elastic scrolling. Does anybody know any good third party tools to add these to Windows? I always use my trackpad on my laptop and without these two things scrolling can be a pain

I couldn't take 'Metro' seriously after travelling on this for a long time..

EDIT: It's owned by German company DB, so this may be where the lawsuit came from..?

It's rather odd the Metro issue. Metro AG is just a German retailer/group who obviously use the name Metro. You would think the clear differences in services they provided would make it obvious that Metro (a feature) and Metro (a retail group) are different and that both have no conflict. The Dutch call their underground line in Amsterdam "Metro", does that mean the Dutch transport agency should threaten legal action too? Usually conflicts only occur if two of the same thing have the same (or similar) name. It's very rare a feature in a product conflicts with an entity like a business.

Microsoft seem happy to drop the name anyway, it just seems strange it was over quickly with very little conflict :/

Ah that would make more sense. Doesn't quite answer how a German company can own the word Metro when it's a globalised word stemming from Metropolitan. Microsoft could fight for the name, but they must know something we don't to not follow it.

There doesn't seem to be much detail on the legal issue either. Unless I haven't been reading it

You're not alone, I can't find where the legal issue stems from either :/ It seems Microsoft have announced the name can no longer be used and said no more on the matter, leaving detail less articles and us lot confused

I'm sure there is an EU law which forbids the ownership of such words. All we have to go by is the possibility Deutsche Bahn is protecting the name because they've established the use of the word Metro in every train company they make across Europe.

Got this e-mail from Amazon this morning. Not sure if it's relevant but they seem to be advertising the release for 26th October and selling the Pro Upgrade Edition for £49.99
