GCSEs are obtained by going to secondary (high) school in the UK. You get them when you're 16, they go from A-G (and a U is possible), most colleges look for 5 or so As-Cs in my area.
NVQ is a National Vocational Qualification, although I'm not sure what it entails.

I tried to find a job at 16, couldnt get one. What they want is experience. But everywhere wants experience but nowhere will give you a job to get experience.
I would have never thought about it a few years ago, but now I'm older at the end of the day it is money so who cares about working in McDonalds, fair play to those working.
Do you ever feel like you want to go home?
Lost in the crowd and you feel alone
I just cannot understand why? Is it down to employers not wanting people with really good qualifications to be stuck in a job that doesn't require many or what?I presume it wouldn't be that 'cause I wouldn't think that the employer would care that much.

I had attempted to get a job at McDonalds while working full time for TransCanada Pipelines. Just an extra job for the summer to bank some savings. When I handed off the application she turned and laughed at me... Interesting how people are judged, even if it is on a resume.
“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you.” ― A.A. Milne
That's not always the case, sometimes employers prefer it if it's your first job. That way they can train you up to how they exactly want and you don't have any bad work habits.
wow, you're either really naive or really stupid. just because you're 'good at maths' doesn't mean they're going to just hand you a job. do you know how many people want jobs in supermarkets? i've been looking around as i want more hours then my current job can give me and NO WHERE has any vacancies and when they do they have so many applications.
mind you, if you're 16 in 2014 i'm guessing that makes you 14? you'll learn that you don't just get what you want because you're 'good at maths'.
the only thing stronger than fear is hope
Wow dude you're like really bad with maths. I never said I'd be 16 in 2014 btw, so Idk how you got that idea. Also that reason wasn't the only one for me to probably not having much trouble to find a job. Plus I do have experience at working in this selling stuff thing which is pretty big and important here in Portugal. Idk how to explain with more detail what it is, but it happens once a year, and just by working a few hours, srsly that was easy money and even had time to practise my english, french and spanish with the tourists while doing it. Also my CV is already pretty good for my age, so with all that, I'm not worried about not finding a part time job and it's not like I'll work my ass of to look for one anyway.wow, you're either really naive or really stupid. just because you're 'good at maths' doesn't mean they're going to just hand you a job. do you know how many people want jobs in supermarkets? i've been looking around as i want more hours then my current job can give me and NO WHERE has any vacancies and when they do they have so many applications.
