They're alright now. At first they seemed like a younger version of The Wanted, not knowing what their genre is or what angle to take on the boy band stance. Now they seem to be okay. Not sure why they are so famous though, it seems more based on looks than voice.

I do not like them. They're OK, but there are people better than them and they really just get by on looks. Though the main reason I dislike them (and others like Justin Bieber) is mostly because of the fanbase they generate who are incapable of hearing anything but praise for the band or w/e they like because they are that obsessed. Well that and their music genre is one which I rarely listen to.

That's debatable. What I mean then is music where the artist had more input, wrote the music, performed it, played the instruments and so on.

Well I wouldn't use the word 'f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c' to describe them with. I cannot stand them or there music.

I don't like them and one of the reasons is their fans, fantasizing to marry any one of them and getting crazy over them (i've seen one of the students in my school having a bunch of 1d pics on her table). And their music are not really that good, not my cup of tea :/ I have other boy bands that i love like OneRepublic, The Script , well at least it's based on voice and not how good they look.

No it isn't debatable, music is music no matter where it comes from. Maybe you need a better word to describe the point you're trying to get across.

it's not debatable, it's just musical snobbery. whitney houston never wrote any of her songs. neither did elvis presley. it's pretty outlandish to say that music is only deemed 'proper' when the artist have majority input. to say that discredits the hard work of those behind artists (such as songwriters, producers, composers, etc.), especially if they don't desire or can't become artists themselves.

It's debatable to me. People class stuff differentially. For example some people claim dubstep isn't music it's just noise and to some people that is true. I don't think its music snobbery it's just an opinion and in my opinion comparing the king of rock Elvis to One Direction is wrong in my opinion - he may have not wrote any of his own songs (don't know much about him) but he played instruments worked hard etc (not saying One Direction aren't hard works though).

My point is one Direction to me just feels like the next JLS. A band just bringing out stuff the same as the last band just for another generation. That's What Makes You Beautiful could have had any other boy band singing it, it just felt like the ultimate standard boy band song and it got the song of the year award.

I'm quite glad the x factor are allowing songwriters to perform their own stuff these days, play a guitar etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to dictate stuff to them, how to look, what to sing, changes to make them more modern etc. It's all about making money really and sometimes in my opinion that comes at the cost of the performers own identity.

Obviously all I am saying is my opinion - I'm not claiming it's a fact. There are some great songwriters out there writing stuff for many people many who won't be anywhere near as famous as those singing it.
