If he would have lost that match, imagine the hell he would have received from the media? But well done to him, hopefully this is only a start to many many more!
I am so disappointed I couldn’t stay up to watch the end of the match; I knew he could do it, if he just believed in himself.
Choosing the ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ will not be easy.
Congratulations Mr Murray![]()
It's the quality of your posts that count, not the quantity!
Dignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them.
Because the media are in his shoes....! He would all of a sudden been 'Scottish' and not 'British' if he lost, same every single time!
I'm a fan of Murray and never understood the hate against him, but from speaking to people I know, people dislike him because apparently he dislikes Britain, which I don't think is entirely true.
But I don't understand the reclutance that Scots have in being called British, Sean Connery said in the interviews for people to stop calling Murray British because he's Scottish...
Nevertheless, amazing win for Murray, here's hoping for more Grand Slam victories![]()
I wrote the exact same on my Facebook status!
Yeah I've heard several stories about Murray's dislike for England, in the World Cup when England were playing with Paraguay, he wore a Paraguay T-shirtI'm a fan of Murray and never understood the hate against him, but from speaking to people I know, people dislike him because apparently he dislikes Britain, which I don't think is entirely true.

Nevertheless, amazing win for Murray, here's hoping for more Grand Slam victoriesOh and I think he said something along the lines of 'I'd rather _______ than be British!'
I don't mind being called British, but i know a lot of Scottish do. At the same time, Welsh like to be Welsh and Irish like to be Irish. The point i was making was.. everytime Andy Murray was playing the hype was all about him being 'British' and everyone was backing him and waheyyyyyyyyyyyy! Then when he had some unfortunate losses.. he's all of a sudden Scottish again.I'm a fan of Murray and never understood the hate against him, but from speaking to people I know, people dislike him because apparently he dislikes Britain, which I don't think is entirely true.

I'm proud of him, i was proud of him at Wimbeldon. It's nice to see a Scottish face doing well in a sport.
But he is British. Do people not understand the difference between being English and British? It doesn't bother me if he doesn't like England, and I can understand his frustration in being called English when people mean British.I wrote the exact same on my Facebook status!

And I understand the thing of the whole media perception, I just don't understand why Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish people don't like being called British.
It's like me being offended at being called European, or Human...

He actually explained why he said that and it's because someone teased him about something and he just replied back, not sure exactly what it was about.I'm a fan of Murray and never understood the hate against him, but from speaking to people I know, people dislike him because apparently he dislikes Britain, which I don't think is entirely true.

I personally refer to him as both when talking about tennis and to be honest, I don't see this "when he's winning he's British, when he's losing he's Scottish" idea ever being used by commentators (also the fact both statements are true).
