Black Mesa is a Half Life 2 mod, it requires any Source engine game (CSS, Hl2, HL2p1,Ep2, HL SDK 2007 (Free), Portal, Portal 2, L4D L4D2) to run. It is a from scratch remake of the original Half Life game in the source engine.

From pictures/videos I've seen the quality is very good, texture/mapping work seems better than HL2.

So is it basically an updated version of Half Life? Does it have the same story line and all? Because i enjoy half life source but i've been waiting for Black Mesa Source for years now.

Black Mesa is for most purposes Half Life with better graphics and replaced maps - Some areas of the game are slightly altered to improve gameplay.

Xen is not finished yet and is going to be extended and improved because the original Xen was ****.

So it basically still links up to the story with Half Life 2 if i decided to play Black Mesa Source instead of Half Life Source but it's just overall improved? Because i want to try out Black Mesa Source but i wasn't sure if it would still be a true prequel to HL2

In many ways it'll links up better as Dr Kleiner and Eli are proper characters with younger looking models now. Xen isn't complete yet though so it doesn't link yet, not sure what the ending is at the moment, havn't played all the way through yet.

It's definately a true prequel though.
