    Default MySpace Redesign

It looks like MySpace, now owned by Justin Timberlake, is preparing for a massive redesign of the site.

MySpace used to be the biggest social network out there, but since Facebook came along, alongside Twitter, it has failed to keep up. It's managed to survive these last few years by turning itself into mainly a social network for music.

Bellow is an article including a video about the redesign. Interestingly people seem to like what they have seen so far design wise, but the big question is will it be able to fight its way back, with a lot thinking it might be too late.

I myself am unsure. The redesign looks promising but I seem to find the majority of the public these days want just one social network because face it, updating and managing multiple networks even with the likes of applications like TweetDeck can still be a pain. While I have a few accounts on various sites, a lot don't get used that much these days. I use facebook because everyone is there, so the challenge will be to perswade new people to try out MySpace.

They can change the layout all they want but the name still has a bad image attached to it and until they lose that i doubt they will see a large increase in activity. I like the new layout, its kinda like a last.fm service

It's quite well timed, it should mean they'll have it all nicely polished as facebook's popularity is starting to decline it appears.

I wouldn't say they had a bad image myself. I just think they are old and most the people these days seem to want to try new stuff out. Myspace got left behind.

I don't see people flocking to MySpace, Facebook has managed to capture everyone's information on their entire life, I don't see anyone else doing that any time soon really...

MySpace did the same thing originally and everyone moved away from there. Why? Because they made their service too bloated and too complicated, just as Facebook is doing now.

MySpace never captured the amount of information Facebook has on people's lives. Why would people want to move? All their friends are on Facebook, all their posts, images, sounds etc etc.

How are they becoming too bloated?

Meh, I'll remain optimistic. It looks alright from the preview pictures. I can't imagine it gaining popularity when Facebook is still the number contender and unlikely to shift any time soon.

However MySpace could gain an audience if it captures a niche e.g. like playing the music side big like it is. Look at Linkedin it's quite popular because it's not just a social network it's a social network for buisness and jobs. I feel that trying to run a generic type of social network for the general public is to tricky with Facebook being at the top so the best way is to find a niche in the market.
