Default My LCD Screen on my iPad broke - HELP!!

I picked up my iPad to find some vertical lines in the middle of my iPad 1st gen screen (ranging in colours) and I found it it's the LCD screen which is broken.

I need advice in what I should do to fix it. Where can I go to fix it, how, how much etc.?

Probably best to just take it to the Apple store and see what they say.

Yeah, take it the Apple store,

could be a bit costly though to repair the screen.
I know they wanted around £260 when I broke my screen from water damage on my iPad 2.

Any other options? It's just that the nearest Apple Store to me is quite far away so it would be easier if it's a close by solution.

Well I assume you could try and do it yourself but if you mess that up then good game I suppose.

Difference between your case and Pigperson's is yours is considered as accidental damage, and his is a mechanical fault (unless he of course ain't saying the full story and he dropped it haha).

I mean, it's a 1st gen so what, 2010? It's after a year however the Sales of Goods Act doesn't give a time limit as to when a warranty ends (well actually it's now six months with European regs).
However, iPads are expensive, perceived as 'high quality', and should last a couple of years without something breaking.

What I think you should do, like others have said, is go to your retailer (or Apple I guess) and ask for a repair. Oh and get reading this: http://whatconsumer.co.uk/what-are-my-statutory-rights/

Another thing is, I've noticed in the Westfield shopping centres here there are quite a few mobile phone/tablet repair businesses, so if you have a repair shop nearby you could try them

Buy a new one. Welcome to the death-spiral of owning an Apple product. Surely you have been looking at getting a new iPad (enter whatever number they're up to now) anyway?
