I hope they're holding their big games for E3 as game wise it was rather underwhelming :L

Not a lot of happy viewers - they were expecting a glimpse of the console It does make me wonder - will Microsoft take the upper hand and show off their new console?

Well a guy who works on the Xbox team tweeted:

Announce a console without actually showing a console? That's one approach
I would probably say when Microsoft is ready to talk about it then you would show the console. They have done previously I think?

Thing is, not showing off a console could work to their advantage. They could see what Microsoft create and reveal (whenever that is?) and then out do it in time for E3, assuming that's the plan. It did seem odd, there was so much hype over this and it was all technical details which, although impressive, will bore the general audience who prefer something more physical and concrete.

Very impressive show, although it would have been nice to have seen the damn thing. Can't wait to see what Microsoft pull out of the bag when they announce theirs. Nintendo has been blown out of the water in comparison.

    It won't support them natively.

Unfortunately, Sony just announced that the PlayStation 4 won't play PS3 games natively out-of-the-box — all of the games you've accumulated over the last few years will be stuck on the older console. However, Sony did say it is exploring "advanced technologies" to bring PS3 support to the PS4 eventually. That backwards compatibility could come via Gaikai-powered streaming, just as we heard last week.

It's sad but true It's self-inflicted what Nintendo is suffering. They lack imagination and drive. The GamePad is amazing, but you need amazing games to really release the full potential. An actual HD Zelda Game would be amazing, and a revamp of other old games (and maybe some new). I still think Pokemon Wii could work, but they're afraid to give people a full 3D Pokémon adventure, or even any decent game. It's sad, but they'll be on the verge of death soon at this rate.

I agree it's odd that they didn't show the console. But it could be very beneficial to them, not only do they get more time to shrink their hardware to make a smaller console, but they also get to do the big actual console announcement at E3 which will allow them to keep attention focussed in their direction over the next few months.

In all honesty they should have realised that the Wii was a stupendous fluke yet they tried to pull the same thing off and failed.
