If you were hoping to play your vast collection of Xbox 360 games on Microsoft's latest creation, we've got a spot of bad news. Microsoft Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten confirmed to The Verge that the new Xbox One console will have no backwards compatibility whatsoever.

"No, there's not," said Whitten, when we posed the question. "The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn't really work from that perspective."

Some what expected.. if you want to make drastic changes then you have to take the risk of not supporting the old console games.

It will still be about them. You'll see more at E3 probably.

No idea why it's called Xbox One - it just sounds like Microsoft got HTC to make it. But other than that it certainly looks like a console. Nothing more to say really other than that - the proof is in the playing.

Hardly a problem. For some reason some people think the moment a new console is out their old console is going burst into flames, screaming "YOU DID THIS TO ME....!!!" Just play both, people did it for the PS2.

I don't blame them for focusing on what people want, but it just shows why I won't be buying one. I'm just not a fan of realistic sports/racing or FPS games.

Don't forget Microsoft want to SELL this device. Obviously they are going to promote developers who make big/popular games to entice the majority of console players.

Oh I agree. I just know people are out there who would kick and scream about that.

You really think Xbox will just have sports, racing and FPS games? Hell no. This is just a preview of what is to come over the next coming weeks.

Control is sexy, device itself is ok, UI is nice and familiar. Bring on E3!

If you see any, strangle them - don't hold back. You won't get arrested. Claim it as a mercy killing and that natural selection would of got them if you hadn't.
