Perhaps it was compensation for buying a million Credits with real life money; the staff just felt sorry for the lack of life he has.

However, if an old member of staff had one, couldn't they trade it to him when they leave, I think that happened with super rares before.

Hardly fair, i'd like to know what he was compensated for. Heck, he'll probably sell it on the black market and make loads from it..
