I agree.
These sort of companies will do anything to get out of paying out. It's smart business.
My first year I got insured for about £1400 @syko2006; btw. Forgot to mention

I agree.Probably because it monitors speed and if you break the speed limit like 3 times or something they'll end their insurance agreement with you due to it.
And doing something like that isn't advised, as if someone smashed into your car that's parked on the road at night they'll find a way to get out of paying for repairs if you're saying it's parked in a garage and it's not.
They're slimey *******s and they'll do everything in their power to avoid paying you for any claims.

This thread has made me so happy I chose not to get a car yet haha
These figures are mental
haven't read whole thread so just ignore me if I'm not posting about the right thing, but from what i can see its about expensive insurance for young drivers.
i passed just over a year ago now and so had to renew my insurance, happy to find it went from £1400ish to £500ish in just a year. No crashes, points or anything. but that's still good.
I'd recommend getting one of those black boxes, they sound scary and annoying but I drive just like I would without it and I'm sure most people do.

I can only tell you from experience, I passed when I was 17, and they charged like £6K ... as you can imagine i never purchased it.. In July of this year, On a Corsa Club 1.2 I got insurance for £848, for 10 months (which would give me a year at the end apart of this deal they have). I cleverly had an accident in August, and wrote my car off. Im now with a Honda Jazz 1.3 and the insurance went up by £121 quid.I need some help, preferably anyway - the problem is I've just passed my driving test (Halloween) and I'm looking for some cheap insurance. I know it's a myth but there must be some kind of hints and tips to cheapen it up from £3k for more-or-less every car.
I'm 19 so I didn't think it'd be so bad but blimey it's impossible. Ideally I don't want to have a telematics device with a curfew or mileage limit but I know I'm probably being a bit of a dreamer.
I just want a car that will be cheap on insurance and a cheap quote, any hints and tips that you nice bunch might have?
Thanks!
Generally your age, and the age of the car is the big difference.
Some tips that helped me and that worked for my insurance premium;
1) Get your OWN policy: Back in the older days you could go on your mums or dads and it'd be dirt cheap. Now its cheaper to go on your own policy and add two or three named drivers, that haven't had any accidents or criminal convictions.
2) Make sure your car is a 1.2 or less. 1.2's are powerful enough to get you from A to B and back again without breaking speeding laws.
3) If you can, do your pass plus. I never did, but it does give you 30% off your insurance premium (or around about that.. )
4) Don't have an accident one month after getting insurance- My premium next year is gonna be a *****.
Yeh my insurance is now £600 on a 1.6 tdi, no no claims as I was on my dads policy for a few years so didn't accrue any. Not bad I suppose
