lol ive done this before and surely its not any more intrusive than the Location: part of your profile. town, country doesn't really give stalkers any real details. Not that I'm fussed if it happens or not.

Your location on the profile is optional, the plugins I've seen don't make it optional.

Oh the one I used was optional. everyone had to add your own 'marker' if they chose to

Are we talking about using a vBulletin plugin that uses Google Maps and bases it of your IP location automatically. Or just generally creating one on Google Maps and letting people do whatever they want on it and put their location to anywhere? As that's two different things.

The latter, yeah. I may be mistaken but I never really got the sense from the OP that it needed to be integrated on the forum per se, more like a thread with a link or something lol

I'm pretty sure you can set the GMaps one to be locked so people can't add markers aside from the map creator.
Then you could just have a thread where people would post their towns/cities and the creator would add a marker for the user.

Oh and I don't see any issues with privacy if you go with GMaps. It would be completely optional if you wanted yourself added. Also just then only add the town/city of the user instead of streets and houses. It wouldn't be much different to the location on profile.

Well you already have your location on your Habbox profile thing so I don't think your location by country will be an issue

If it's just by like country, e.g different regions in the UK (Scotland, England, Wales) and the same for other countries then that would be fine. I don't mind people knowing what cityI live in but nothing beyond that.
