Maybe you should buy a set of these to keep it waterproof!

I forgot my iPod was in my gym shorts and put them through the wash. I'm currently waiting for the washing cycle to finish so I can check on my iPod :-P

Has anyone ever done this to an electronic device before? Did it survive?

    Cheers :-P

Likely hood it won't work again because of all the chemicals but put it in rice for about 1 week and do your prayers every night

So I decided to put it through the drying machine afterwards (mainly because I could not find it when I searched through the wet clothes).

After it was done through the drier, I tried a new pair of headphones and the iPod actually still works great.

Apparently iPod shuffles can survive a trip through the washing machine, as long as you put them through the drier afterwards :-P

If I were you, I'd still leave it in some rice for a day or two. There could be some water droplets left inside, making it a ticking timebomb of ipod death.
