To be completely honest, DJ's need to have a variety. Everyone has different taste in music. One song could be 5SOS - She Looks So Perfect, the next could be Queen - We Will Rock You.

To add, if the DJ's would play the different varieties then, they would have more listeners.

Whole shows on particular genres or eras or themes (rock, 80s, Disney, etc) are good until the novelty wears off. So long as they are kept to weekly or fortnightly ad a chance is taken to organise the show well then they can work. Themes come off well in all respects as they also allow a chance for themed completions that are easy to follow like dress up or even further afield writing or drawing. I would tune in to support any themed show because the dj has actually bothered to think about their show and isn't just playing requests or The Wave followed by Ariana grande. I don't tune in to bear things in my own library or on ever other radio going, I tune in for charismatic djs.

Which is why I was planning to push perm shows a lot and really make them the next focal point of HxL. HxL will never get anywhere and continue to be stuck on the same amount of listeners it has now, because of the fact that everything is so generic, it gets boring.

I would suggest filling up prime-time slots with at least one perm show and make them different. One element that made HxL so successful in the past was variety and lack of same old, same old. This has been lost and we never really got into it sadly.

The downside to that, is that you would get DJs starting a show and they would never have any guidance, so it would be either really **** or the DJ quits anyway after a couple of weeks, which is another issue. I'd try find good longer serving DJs to really fill these slots. You want people to look forward to a show, and this is one of the ways you can do so .
