we dont do majors I'm the UK I'm still technically in high school in America I would be going into my last year
im im studying Psychology, Theatre and English Language
Just to let you know I HATED teaching so much. Got out of there as fast as I could.I got my offer from Exeter to do it but I started umming and ahhing when I thought I'd failed at that interview. After then I kinda started looking into journalism jobs and really reconsidered my life a lot (a lot of people say going straight into a PGCE after a degree and school isn't the best idea and you should get "life experience").
In erm, April, when I was finishing up my diss and stuff I applied to two jobs more in what I love doing - I like teaching and I wanted to do it since I was 7, but I LOVE digital marketing, journalism, copywriting, graphic design, website management & social media management which I discovered during my time at Uni (and on here tbf) - which I never ever even CONSIDERED I could make a career out of.
Anyway I applied to these jobs, one digital marketing and one sub-editor (page design) at a newspaper (biggest one in Wales). Got turned down for first (which I wanted more, a lot more money), but got offered interview, trial and a full-time job within a week. Handed in diss on 9th May, started work on 14th!
I always thought I'd experience it for 3 months, see if I liked it and then I could decide whether to turn down Exeter or not - I didn't let them know until a couple of weeks ago. I really love my job though, and although being a student is a hell of a lot less stressful I wouldn't give it up for the world.
Maybe I'll go back into teaching at some point, it's not like I've ruined any opportunity for that, but for now I just think I'm really good at my job and I like it so I might as well stick with it!

TL;DR: Yes. I turned it down 'cos I got a job.

Nope. I decided to teach for one year and realised very early on that it wasn't for me.. but I still had to fulfil my one year contract.
I never wanted to be a teacher that was just experience gathering which turned out to be quite successful because I was observed teaching and put on to bigger and better thingsNot to worry anyway I've pretty much been in constant employment since I started working. I've just been promoted actually.. a job of which I start September 1st.
Well despite that I said I was 21 on my mole application (ye still don't know why), I'm actually 22 but I still think the above applies to me too. I have a cousin who got into teaching and she couldn't handle it and a large part of that was because the kids didn't respect her as she looked young therefore easy target. I wouldn't want to go into a teaching career and be one of those people that quit. If I wanted to go into teaching, it'd be when I felt ready and I think that would come when looking older and more of an authority figure after building a career and confidence elsewhere.Originally Posted by lawrawrrr
I'm only JUST 21 and I look really young for my age - I don't think students would even respect me until I'm older anyway.
My cousin taught primary Year 3 so even at that young age they're capable of wearing people down with the pressure and stress. I hope this don't put you off your PGCE, I don't think it should be a rule that you must be 30+ but I think I'd be more comfortable with a few years in a career away from the classroom.
Back off to college tomorrow after a 5 year gap!
