Harvard Referencing

Hello, please help me.

Basically I've got to start harvard referencing at college and I've been given like a leaflet from staffordshire university and some powerpoint, but one of them has the referencing boxed and the other has it just like a list. Should I use boxing or the list method? I have a new tutor who its her first year being a tutor and she doesn't seem to know.

Also do I only have to do citations in my referencing if I've copied the text directly. If I've used a source but changed the information into my own words, do I need to reference that source, or is it just different if I've put it into my own words? Thanks

This is reallyyy hazy memory as I only recall reading it in a book about a year ago, but I think you have to still reference it even if you paraphrase it. Though if it isn't the direct quote you won't need to put a page number.

Haha makes sense now, I didn't know re-wording was called paraphrasing

You need to put a citation for everything including page numbers. Only time you wouldn't put page numbers is if you've summarised the general message of the book rather than paraphrasing or quoting a particular section.

I dunno what you mean by boxed but we just did a list in alphabetical order by surname.
