So FSX has just been re-released, with working multiplayer!

For those who haven't delved into the steam holiday sale thread, let this post inform you that FSX has returned under license of a new developer (the developer who produces the Train simulator game).

They plan on bringing out a new version next year, but so far have as of yesterday just re-released FSX Gold Edition under the title of Steam Edition.

No new features so far but they have already fixed it up to run more efficiently, replaced the GameSpy multiplayer system with Steam's own system and have made the game compatible with Window 8.

It's priced at £20 but currently on sale for £4 until 6PM tomorrow.

What's more, no more pain of waiting for that lengthy disk installation!

Shame it doesn't support a lot of 3rd party addons that makes Flight Simulator great (maybe for now). I actually wish Dovetail Games didn't win the bid and that the other bid that was in place won instead.

In their FAQ they say it's mostly just a matter of it being installed to the wrong directory, but regardless of this I'm sure a) more of the old addons will eventually be made compatible and b) new addons will now be made for the game.

One thing's for sure is that FSX now has a new lease of life, and I can't wait to give it another go!

As you say, a shame about the specific developer, it will become extremely DLC dependent.

A lot won't until FSUIPC is compatible (which seems to be in progress) but they need to get PMDG, Aerosoft and the other major devs on board if they want it to work. But by the sounds of what they have posted there isn't much going to be released initially by Dovetail.

I bought it while it was on sale yeah - Its not bad to be fair, seems to run a lot smoother.

Still running the boxed version along side as all my addons are installed.

Fair enough, I'm not going to bother as I'm at the point where I have my FSX as stable as you can get it. All I want now is a 64 bit simulator with the addons I use and we will be in a better place!
