Seems like a huge overreaction by fans to this. If you punch a producer (which was one allegation) then what do you expect? They probably won't axe the show or Clarkson, and have yet another internal inquiry where hands are shook and apologies are made to the attacked producer. I think this might be one of those occasions where an inquiry is needed if he actually attacked someone - be it verbally or physically. The other occasions where he was in trouble were simply not worth it, though. He's an old idiot - it's part of his charm and not made with intent.

There is no evidence of a punching though - Just what some certain newspapers decided to go with. If he did punch someone, shouldn't the Police also be getting involved?

At the very least, they should not axe the rest of the episodes.

Vast amounts of taxpayers money has been used to make them - if the taxpayer therefore wants to watch them, then they should be entitled to.

Top Gear presenter James May has confirmed that Jeremy Clarkson had a "dust up" over dinner, leading to his suspension from the BBC.

The corporation said that no one else had been suspended over the "fracas", and the programme would not be broadcast on Sunday March 15.

Speaking outside his home, James May said he did not think the situation was serious.

Only if the victim or some onlookers report it - and in many cases these days if it was actually serious. Quite often if an employer is involved they will do internal enquiries to avoid wasting police time. If it was a non-physical fracas as was hinted at when it all started it would/should be sorted within a couple of weeks.

The (former) Stig's reaction seems pretty spot on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31828943 - what a waste of taxpayer's money to cancel the rest of the series - but then we don't know the full details.

Most of what he says is retrospective ramblings about how the previous allegations of racist remarks were probably by people wanting to be or are easily offended, but seeing as the last warning card has been played it all comes out now.

What I don't get is why the BBC felt the need to publicly announce an 'internal investigation'.

It's not easy suspending one of the main presenters of a TV programme that has live recordings They would have to tell visitors to the studios that it has been cancelled, and they have a duty to tell viewers that a show they helped fund will not be showing.

I don't know what to think really. I think in the past too many people have overreacted to his comments, often taking them out of context. As people have mentioned he said things sometimes without thinking but it was part of his character. Politicians have said things before and get away with it and they are in charge of our country.

At the same time if what the media is reporting is true, then he shouldn't really have hit someone but we don't really know the full story. The BBC are in an awkward position - people really do enjoy his antics and top gear, as shown by the petition and he makes the BBC a lot of money. Also it's us, the public who pay for the BBC. But at the same time, they've already gave him a final warning and some of the public don't enjoy his antics, and probably worry if letting him off will make them look weak.
