Default Early frontrunner Chuka Umunna MP *suddenly* pulls out of Labour leadership race

Early frontrunner for Labour leadership, Chuka Umunna MP, *suddenly* pulls out of race amid swirling rumours....

On Wednesday the union funded propaganda blog Political Scrapbook amplified a minor mention of Chuka on a niche Tory website, making sure it was seen by Labour leadership watchers:

And the disingenuous left have not stopped there. Today there was a very, very clunky tweet from Owen Jones:

See what he did there? Chuka is from exactly the wing of the Labour Party that Owen wants to kill off. A kind word here, a double entendre there…

A tweet that Katie Hopkins later DELETED.

Now I did want this fella to get the leadership as for me, an arrogant out of touch guy like Umunna would do wonders for my side given how northern working class voters are abandoning the Labour Party for seeing what it really is nowadays: an out of touch, Islington run metropolitan party that is about as far away from Old Labour as you could throw it.

That said, the rumours seem to be swirling that he's pulled out of the race as the press or his political enemies in the Labour Party are threatening/or are going to shortly reveal he's gay. And the rumours are that he's in a relationship with the singer/celebrity Tinie Tempah.

I'm sure all will be revealed soon anywho.

    Thoughts?

If it comes out that he's secretly been banging Tinie Tempah then that is such an odd coupling like did Tinie Tempah do an underground grime party and strip show for the shadow cabinet or something that's a much better story than anything that politics can come up with

This is absolutely stupid. How disgusting that a man who aspires to be one day the leader of his party is almost immediately scrutinised by even those close to him. He might have secrets but don't well all, which is what ****** me off so much because of the fact he should be allowed to at least be allowed a try rather than being pushed at the first hurdle.

Plus, why the bloody hell does being gay change the fact that he should be a politician. What world do we live in ffs. This is the 21st century, it'll be healthy to have a gay politician who's in some limelight to at least prove that democracy is actually blind to sexuality and that should open doors to those who aspire to be a politician and other public figures whilst not having to hide their real selves.

I actually hate this world. How bloody backwards are we.

Sickening if it is because he is gay; shouldn't need to worry about that in a so-called 'modern' Britain..

Him pulling out of the leadership was almost as sudden *sudden* as Farage becoming leader again!

@Joe; I suspect it's an issue for Labour because increasingly it has to rely on the votes of sections of the population who aren't all too keen homosexuality. at all.

it's a shame really as Chuka really does represent the modern labour party but oh well. there's always tristam hunt or yvette cooper.

Is Tristam Hunt the historian? I had to watch videos of him every lesson on the English civil war, because my teacher fancied him.

Apparently it's nothing to do with being gay but the media harassment of his family. If he is dating Tinie Tempah though, good for him lmaoo, that'd be good to get the yoof vote cos we all believe the same and follow the cult of celebrity.

That's what he claims. Media say or suggest otherwise as do Labour rivals.

He's probably sold the story to a Sunday paper, wouldn't be surprised if we find out tomorrow what really happened! Most of what I've read though is about the media pressures, which is a fairly big thing. He wasn't hugely reported on before but now as he's announced his candidacy there's press 24/7 around him, hounding him, his family, his girlfriend and his girlfriend's family and that would only get worse as the campaign continues and, if he were to win, as leader of the opposition.

It's no surprise to me that that pressure gets to people and when they get a taste they realise that it's not something they can cope with. I've seen a hell of a lot of negative comments from really nasty people (hadn't heard the gay rumour until I clicked on this thread?) about his race and the fact he has a white girlfriend - that's not really something anyone in their right mind would be HAPPY about... right...
