Default Any advice for my holiday to GREECE next week?!

I'm going to Faliraki, which is located on the beautiful island of Rhodes in Greece with my other half!
Its my first proper holiday, I don't count visits to Poland as a holiday as they were more family visits (as I'm half polish.)

So i'm treating this holiday like my first!

Any advice? Maybe for tourists hot spots to visit, or specific medication to take in case of dodgy tummy etc, all advice is welcome!!

    Thanks
Good things take time, but the best things, happen all at once..

I am the future Mrs Cooper..

    But don't tell Jason that

My main bit of advice is: Treat it as if it's a family trip to Poland.
Otherwise you'll make yourself unnecessarily nervous, which might cause you to get stressed/worry, and you don't need that right before a holiday. If you treat it exactly the same, you'll feel more comfortable & you'll enjoy the build up a lot more too.

In terms of places, I can't reall say as I've only left the UK once, on a holiday to spain, so...
In terms of medication, I use Sturgeon 15 & they work quite well. The only downside is that they take 2 hours to kick in, so take them on your way to the airport, then let them do their work.
A little hint about them though: The box will say take two, only take one! Otherwise you'll be too tired and drowsy for the next 24 hours, which you won't want on your first day on Holiday.

My friends went there a couple of years ago and got bit by mosquitos quite a bit so bring some repellent. I'm going to corfu this year and I will deffo be bringing jungle formula, plugins for the room, and antihistamines. They abs loved rhodes though

On the medicine side of things... Whilst your out in Greece pop into a pharmacy and pick up some cream to put on mosquito bites. They sell some fantastic stuff that's illegal to sell in the UK as it's antihistamine, anti inflammatory and antibiotic in one. It's quite expensive but I can put it on a bite and it's completely gone in two hours so I thoroughly recommend it

Also, as Kirst said, pick up some repellent over here in the UK as you'll definitely be needing it! Spray it on yourself every time you reapply sunscreen to try and keep the bugs away.

Hope you have a good time

I've been going to Greece for 18 years of my life so I'll list everything we look for:

    1) Mosquito repellant. Don't bother going to Greece without this. You'll be bitten to shreds depending on your skin, for example my mum is literally eaten alive whereas me and my dad are pretty ok with them. So yeah, either it'll be at duty free when you arrive or nip into a pharmacy and they'll help you, you won't need to know Greek either as that is what 99% of their sales are.

    2) Mosquito repellant plug in tabs. Basically they're a little plug in device where you place a tab into, which will keep Mosquitos away completely and will protect your room. I can't remember the name but most supermarkets will sell them.

    3) DO NOT FLUSH THE TOILET PAPER. Sometimes you won't get told depending on your provider, but they don't want you to flush your paper, this is because of the fact the septic tanks contain lots of Mosquitos, and the toilet paper will float to the top and be a perfect place to allow them to breed, so they actually clamp down on it quite badly. You need to bin your paper and they'll be a bin in your bathroom.

    4) If you need medicine and think "I'll just get some there" don't bother, it's so expensive so just take your own. Especially if you're on medication regularly, stock up.

    5) Antibacterial hand cream/wipes/foams. Some of the toilets are disgusting like any european company so just take them and you'll be ok.

I think that's everything, enjoy yourself!

I literally only ever take sun cream, after sun, mosquito repellant and paracetamol on holiday. On the rare occasion I do need anything else the chances are my friends do as well so we just go and buy a pack of what ever to share. No need to make such a massive fuss about it really.

Also I'm going to Rhodes in July so let me know how you enjoy it x

Thank you all for your help! I am a little nervous but mainly excited, I didn't even think about the mosquito's out there! So thank you so much for making myself and my other half aware! Have a great day guys

No worries, Greece is beautiful and I'd recommend it to anyone. Kinda just realised how abrupt I was with my reply, I replied on my phone and saw your post so I really wanted to just tell you everything I knew. You'll love it!

I'm off to Rhodes June 10th. First time there for a long time. As others have said the usual, stockpile your supplies. Rhodes town is beautiful as is Lindos if you're looking to relax. Otherwise there is a really nice water park in Faliraki. Boat cruises are also pleasant.
