Whilst it won't make the massive differences she says we needs, she can surely help as can other wealthy celebrities who keep calling for higher taxation but who strangely don't want to pay it themselves. From Jimmy Carr having a go at tax avoidance (whilst doing it himself) to the likes of Warren Buffet who purposely avoid tax. When they call for higher taxes, they don't mean themselves... they mean the people who can't afford to pay for clever financial lawyers to find loopholes.

As someone said, whats the betting that Charlotte Church herself has already used loopholes. I'm sure a newspaper/Guido will find something on it.
Not true. Why should she pay more than the government is asking for? It isn't her job to impose legislation, but she is still entitled to her view on it.

Because she has so many opinions on them and austerity and this and that and clearly wants them broadcast so why doesn't she lead the way, as she obviously wants in her campaign, and begin turning over the tax she thinks she ought to be paying? Answer? She has no intention of of paying up even if it were law.

By that long reach of logic Dan you ought to be packing your bags, since you don't want to be in Europe

Or PERHAPS it's possible for people to have opinions on stuff without making personal sacrifices that won't make an actual difference to anything and it's still not the story that you're trying to claim it as

I love European nation states and want them to continue to prosper so I actually belong here more than most.

As for Ms Church, yes she has a lot of opinions doesn't she and maybe it is time she actually put her money where her mouth is. But as I said above, the fact is that even if it became law she and the others (see Jimmy Carr) would employ lawyers (because they can afford to) whilst everyone else would be paying higher taxes so this stuck up stupid cow can feel good about herself. If she's going to start spouting off then she should organise a campaign for her and other celebrity luvvies to pay more tax and together they can make a huge difference to the tax intake. So why doesn't she?

Oh yes because I am heading anti-austerity marches in London.

Maybe she should take a leaf out of the book of Tony Benn, a hero of the left wing and a principled man, who was against hereditry titles or titles of any kind and fought to have the ability to drop his titles in the 1960s: and did so. He didn't sit and wait for all the other peers to drop theirs or for the Lords to go.

"it's a non story" lol no it isn't. Here's a woman demanding higher taxes on higher earners... well go ahead love and make a point.

Whilst it won't make the massive differences she says we need, she can surely help as can other wealthy celebrities who keep calling for higher taxation but who strangely don't want to pay it themselves. From Jimmy Carr having a go at tax avoidance (whilst doing it himself) to the likes of Warren Buffet who purposely avoid tax. The list goes on and on and on. When they call for higher taxes, they don't mean themselves... they mean the people who can't afford to pay for clever financial lawyers to find loopholes. Just as Labour politicians who support comprehensive education don't send their kids to them.

As someone said, whats the betting that Charlotte Church herself has already used loopholes. I'm sure a newspaper/Guido will find something on it.
In theory there isn't anything stopping them from donating lump sums to the NHS (for example). They are NHS Trusts so you can easily donate sums of money to the trust. But investments seem to be something they refuse to do :/

It's strange how we're reverting back into being a country where the rich may soon be investing in society, yet they can't be bothered going that tiny extra step and actually doing it.
